Design Challenge:

During my time working as the Community Partnerships Manager at the Greenmount West Community Center Foundation, our team frequently heard from community members about the lack of laundry facilities within the community. Our community lacked access to a basic human right: clean clothes.

Design Solution:

In the summer of 2021, we held a two-week Wash n' Fold event, where we rented a mobile laundry trailer and served our community as laundry attendants. In addition to providing an essential service, we had art activities, screen printing, movie screenings, and more. We brought an element of joy and delight to the community while addressing their needs.

During that two-week period, we served 100 individuals from within our community and throughout Baltimore City. We also employed local youth as laundry attendants, providing additional economic support for neighborhood families and a positive summer employment experience for their children.
